In this lesson, we will:

  1. Discuss and examine four paintings by Claude Monet.
  2. Draw and paint sailboats on the sea in the style of the impressionists. 


All lessons will be recorded, so you will have an opportunity to rewatch the lesson as often as you would like!

This will be great for all age levels in the family, but is geared towards upper elementary aged students.  

A 14 page downloadable PDF art packet is included with this lesson.


I will teach your kiddos how to paint a maritime scene like impressionist painter, Claude Monet.


How the course will be structured:

It will be about one hour,

 with the following time frame as approximate times

  1. 10 minutes: introduction to Claude Monet and his artwork
  2. 10 minutes: practice drawing sailboat and coloring the sky & sea with colored pencils
  3. 10 minutes: setting up the final paper and paint palette
  4. 25 minutes: painting the scene
  5. 5 minutes: discussion and clean-up

Once you purchase this course, it is yours to use as often as you would like. It does not expire. 

2. What age group is this course geared towards?

This course is geared towards children in elementary to high school. The younger students might need some guidance/help from the parent downloading and preparing the PDF file. You know your child! Parents might also want to participate in the lessons as a fun way to study art together as a family!

3. How many videos are included with this course?

We will have a LIVE video on the date of this lesson.  It will be recorded and uploaded within 24 hours of the end of the session so you can rewatch the lesson as often as you would like. It also includes a downloadable PDF file.

4. Why the name "Yellow Spot: Sun"?

Pablo Picasso, famous artist and Cubist, once said, "There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot, but there are others, with the help of their art and intelligence, that transform a yellow spot into the sun."  

What a wonderful way to view art! If we take the time to view art in this manner, there is no telling what each of these budding artists can create over their lifetime!

Hi there! I'm Marrissa, the creator of Yellow Spot:Sun and have been homeschooling my three kiddos since 2013. Prior to homeschooling my own kiddos, I earned my Master's Degree in Art Education and taught art in At-Risk public schools for nearly a decade.
