Three Beautiful Things?

Why

Many, many years ago, I taught 3rd grade for one year. One of the weekly assignments for the students was to bring in a current event to share during our "Morning Time" activity. Each week the students would share sad stories they found in the newspaper with their classmates. I began to dread this assignment because it would set such a depressing tone for the rest of the day. Then I had an epiphany! I changed the assignment to students finding a "positive" or "uplifting" story in the newspaper to bring in to share with the class each week. Parents were so upset with me. They complained that it was far too difficult to find a "good" story in the newspaper. But I stood firm and after a while, parents told me that it became a family assignment each week to find a "good" story in the newspaper.
